For Texas Tech's men's basketball program, they like the father, and they like the son.

When Bob Knight steps down as head basketball coach, his son, Pat Knight, will take over the program, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported Friday.

Pat Knight agreed to a five-year deal to become head coach-designate, the newspaper reported, citing unnamed sources.

Texas Tech's Board of Regents must still approve the deal, the Avalanche-Journal reported. School officials declined to comment on the story, and the newspaper was unavailable to reach the newspaper.

The arrangement is similar to one at Oklahoma State, where Sean Sutton will replace his father, Eddie Sutton, at the end of next season.

Texas Tech hired Bobby Knight in March 2001, six months after Indiana fired him. His contract runs through 2009.
