Media Rants: Suggestion to Mods

Lately, there have been a lot of more rants about the local media going on. There always seems to be at least one thread on the main page started by people getting upset about the DOK, the Sports Animal, or the local news stations. I have to say, I'm really getting tired of it. I don't think it adds anything to our discussion of OSU sports.

Therefore, I would like to suggest to the mods that these threads be limited to the bedlam board. I think that they much better fit that location. Also, it would improve the main board (IMHO).

Now I'm no fan of a lot of the media's handling of OSU, but this is my opinion. I'm including a poll so that everyone else can share their's.

I have a suggestion. Just read the posts you want to read. There is no requirement that you read each and every post. Why does another location make any sense at all? What would it do for the main board that would be so ground breaking? How do these threads affect you personally? Since the board us the OSU sports forum and the threads are talking about the medias attacks on OSU sports, isn't this board the best place for them by definition?

Both, the poll was to see if people agreed with me and so that the mods could see what others thought. If I'm alone on this, then so be it. No reason for anybody to jump on me.

Complaining about the DOK has less to do with how they treat OSU and more to do with how they treat UO better. IMO, complaining about it belongs in the Bedlam & Flame forum just like everything else concerning badmouthing UO or any other ranting does.

If "what could have been" Jai Lucas threads are now moved to General Sports, why wouldn't "what could have been" DOK threads moved as well?

the solution is simple. if anyone post any fringe topics in the wrong forum they should automatically be expelled from op, never to be heard or talked about again. This way we can keep atrocities such as posting topics in the forum that may not be technically correct will never happen.

Here's a suggestion: if you don't like the rants, don't read them. Seems a bit hypocritical to me that you say "If you don't like it don't read it" but the second you read something on this board you don't like - some sort of censorship should be applied.

I will keep reading the paper (for free of course) and you can keep reading these rants (if you choose of course)...

Censorship and organization are two different things. I'm not saying delete them, I'm just saying they belong in a different forum. Insulting and complaining about the media in not too different then insulting and complaining about OU. Why is it any different?

Biggest doesn't mean best, heck it doesn't even mean good.

What I was getting at, is that is seems that folks get all bent out of shape because of the OSU coverage, or lack thereof, yet they continue to support it. The best thing to do is stop purchasing it. The pocketbook speaks much louder than emails from upset subscribers. As long as you subscribe they could care less if you are happy.


Now, if you are getting it for free, abuse it!!

While I'm aware that this is a privately held board, and that it is not necessarily a free speech zone, the beautiful thing about this is that if you don't care, you don't have to read, but some of us want to talk about whatever it is that we want to talk about, and we have the freedom to respond, or not to respond. Most likely, if a topic says "Jai Lucas", well you can safely assume that the thread will be talking about, well, Jai Lucas. If a thread says "Deano at it again!" or "DOrK spewing anti-osu venom again!" well those are probably ripping some of the oklahoma media for that person's perceived bias against OSU. So what's the solution? Don't read them. If you were tired of Jai Lucas, then don't keep writing "I am tired of Jai Lucas" on every thread and keep bumping them to the top! Let people talk about what they want to talk about, regardless of where the post originates. If you don't like it, don't read about it or talk about it, and everything will be fine :rolleyes:

'Course, if you notice, all the Jai Lucas posts are being moved to a different forum, and not all the threads that are "the Oklahoman sux" are titled so. I'm not saying censor them, just move them to a place where they can be discussed. The "I hate the DOK" posts have about as much to do with the OSU athletics forum as the OU bashing ones. The later get moved; why can't the former? Why can't we leave the OSU athletics forum for discussion of just that?

Because we're discussing the media treatment of OSU athletics, that's why. We aren't talking about the media treatment of Duke (that would fall under general sports), we aren't talking about the media treatment of the president (that would fall under miscellaneous), we aren't talking about the media treatment of the way we hate OU (that would fall under bedlam and flame), and we aren't talking about the media treatment of selling tickets (that would fall under ticket exchange). So if you don't like those posts, don't read them!

The above is a TEST. Only a TEST. If it had been an actual post about the DOK bias you would have been instructed to stop whinning, stop reading, stop buying, etc. Again, this was only a TEST !

I know that the DO sucks. I just grow tired of reading about how much it sucks all the time. There are some that are overly sensitive and find slights in anything and everything. Paranoia gets a bit draining after a while.

This is pretty much the way I feel (and I don't have to try and keep up with all that's going on). I just want to read the article and discussion about what was in it rather than getting bombarded with "I hate the Oklahoman" coments every time. Sorry if my posts earlier helped blow this out of porportion. I just thought maybe if people had a place to rant, they wouldn't feel like they had to do it every time a DOK article was posted.
