The Tulsa version of the urinal were making fun of the OKC media today. They said that the OKC people have become overnight experts on the NBA.
THIS IS NOT A TULSA VS. OKC ARGUMENT.
I was just curious if the OKC folks have seen any evidence of this, now that you have an NBA city, have the media and fans become instant experts on the topic of NBA hoops?

I don't know about experts, but there certainly are a lot of strong opinions.
I think the Hornets being here gave the OKC media access and familiarity with the NBA. Then when the Sonics/Thunder were seen as probably coming here, they kept close watch.
I think they know far more now about the league then they would have without the Hornets having been here.
One problem I have with the Urinal guys is they won't give Westbrook a break at all. He had a pretty strong rookie season, with comparable numbers to Tony Parker in his rookie year, and they swear he cannot be a point guard. It drives me crazy. I think partly they are spoiled by Chris Paul because of how brilliant he is.

They're probably making fun of the DOK, specifically Jenny Carlson who declared Westbrook to be a "genius pick" and the "emerging face of a franchise and a rising luminary in the league".
Did they give an update on the almighty Bixby 66ers after that? :)
But seriously... some are probably like that, but who cares? It's a young market and people are over-zealous about the Thunder right now, so they want to look like they're caught up with the team. No issue there.
As for the media... well, it is what it is here.

What part of that isn't true? Go back to the draft last year, and see who else would have been a better pick at #4?

I'm not saying it wasn't a good pick, but "genius"? Come on.
Honestly, as much as I like Westbrook, I think we'd be in better shape had we drafted Kevin Love, Eric Gordon, or Brook Lopez. That would have allowed us to draft Rubio or one of the other talented point guards in this year's draft.

You really think Rubio would have played in OKC? I think you are dreaming.

If not Rubio, then Johnny Flynn or Tyreke Evans would have been fine picks at PG.

Sacramento drafted him with the 4th pick.
He will have to improve his shooting. He's very explosive, but one dimensional at the moment.
Back on topic, the OKC media seems to like to know what they're talking about, and sometimes they do, but other times they're just blowing smoke out their ass, so I'd say it's a little bit of both.
PS: The Thunder need a solid backup PG. Westbrook is the future and present.
Flynn and Rubio don't wanna be backups.

Why does this punk kid rubio have any right to decide where he plays? If he were drafted by the thunder then he needs to shut his mouth and go to work.

I agree, but the Thunder don't need him.

Not any experts , but OKC has a team so comments and discussion is warranted by the sports media in OKC.

He has the right to decide to sit out if he wants.
OKC, the NBA or any other team don't own the kid, fer cryin' out loud. They can't make him do anything he doesn't want to do.

well if he is not willing to sign with the team that picks him then he should not have put his name in the draft.
