Figured it would be a good day to head out after the rain this afternoon. Went with a friend of mine to get away from the ladies. Started fishing out at Stars and Stripes park, which is currently being renovated rather nicely. Caught one sand bass and a few perch. After a while, we gave up and moved down to the east side of the lake near the restaurants. Caught 3 more sand bass, a sogeye, and a 3 pound catfish. :D

Hefner must have some good fish if you know where and when to fish. Hefner years ago produced a 12lb bass.

I have heard that some savy fishermen have put cover in the middle of the Lake and then return using only a GPS to find those hot spots.

Although I live nearby I never fish there. I only ride my bike around the Lake and then sometimes in the evening my wife and I have Sonic Burgers to watch the sun go down.

There's definitely a few really good spots. I don't mind sharing them. The first is on the point at Stars and Stripes park, just over the wall there. I'm not sure what cover is in there, but apparently the fish love it. The next is over by the channel where they let the water in from Overholser. That place is HOT when they let water in. Fish literally jump out of the water trying to swim upstream there. It's awesome. The last spot is where I was last night. If you park at the restaurants and fish north of the lighthouse. You have to move along the bank to find the good spots, but they are there. I have never caught anything on the north side of the lake. Nada. I don't know why, it's just not good there. I don't have a boat so I imagine that is part of it. I plan on getting one soon though so I can hit those spots.

20 yrs ago we use to clean up on big crappie on the north side riff raff. Is there still a big drainage ditch on the east side of the Hefner Parkway? We had great times catching big bullfrogs on flyrods there. mmmm frog legs.

Thanks for the information. As I ride around the Lake, I see quite a few fisherman either working the rock dam in boats, or fishing from the dam near the drain tower.

My son-in-law has purchased a big sailboat that they have outfitted like new. Recently he took my wife and I sailing in the evening. It was great. My grandson is also a big sailing fan and races out of the boat club. I hope to sail more on the Lake before bad weather comes this fall.

I'd love to have a boat out there. Does it cost an arm and a leg to dock a boat?

I really don't know. I'll ask my son-in-law. But he is out of town so it may be awhile. I think a better answer may be to trailer your boat in and out if it is not too big. I have watched many folks do this and they soon to get it in and out fast.

A friend of mine has a slot at Eufaula and it used cost him around $100 / month. But they provide some extra services. I'll have to ask him about that.

That picture really makes me want to go fishing. I need to fish more. :o Being married with two little kids has certainly hurt my fishing & hunting time.
