I'm getting my concealed carry permit in September so I'm in the market for an inside the belt holster for my Glock 23. Any recommendations?

Is getting a reinforced belt to hold everything up that important?

Milt Sparks and Don Hume both make good holsters from many testimonials I've heard. Hume is in OK I think. I have a Phantom holster from Raven Concealment made of Kydex. It's molded to fit the gun, very thin but tough, and can be adjusted for IWB or OWB wear, and cheap if you don't wanna go for one of the expensive ones right away. However, ultimately leather is probably the way to go.

As for the belt, if you have a good leather belt now, you don't necessarily need one specifically for carry, but it's a good idea eventually. My CCW is just a tad heavier than yours and I get by without a special belt, but a Milt Sparks belt is high on my list of things to buy.

My customers like these pretty well. Kind of expensive, but they're made in Texas and have a lifetime guarantee from the manufacturer - WRB.

I have too much belly to use in IWB holster comfortably. :o

Check out Crossbreed Holsters. They really distribute the weight a little better than most IWB holsters. Milt Sparks makes a great holster. My Glock 38 is in a Crossbreed.. You will not go wrong with either.

You just have to ask and look around A LOT!.

The Glock is a 23 - and it was duracoated orange by Mike at Oklahoma Police Suppy in Tulsa. The engraver was sent off from zipgraver.com

i suggest getting a non-fitted one. it will allow you alot more carrying options. cheaper than dirt has a good universal one that i use all the time. it allows you to carry in all positions and still have your preferred draw hand.

Which holster did you go with? I have been considering getting a crossbreed for my Sig but is hard to find places that have good IWBs to get a feel for how each holster would sit.

Also wondering if anyone here knows of another medium-frame person that is able to properly conceal a weapon such as the Springfield 40 XDM? Or perhaps someone can direct me to a decent shoulder holster for this? Most of the ones I've seen so far tend to be pretty uncomfortable.

If you just wear a regular belt it will tend to stretch the belt over time and it will start sagging in the spot you carry. I would suggest getting one at some point in time especially if you carry alot.

Right now I do not carry too much (mainly on trips or being away from home) so I have not gotten a belt yet. However I have seen what carrying has done to some regular belts (brother and friends). If you carry alot (or all the time) then I would suggest looking into one.

Man I would have never even thought to do that! That Donner holster is a very nice item!

I wear a tuckable Galco holster and am satisfied with it. I have seen them a lot cheaper than this but here is the link for example: http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterPG3.asp?ProductID=2437&GunID=175

I still haven't bought one. I have been borrowing a Comp-Tac C-TAC holster from a guy that works at the range I go to. I really like it and you can adjust the cant to suit you. I'm not sure if my Glock 23 is going to be small enough for me to comfortably conceal, however.

Still waiting on the paperwork from the state.

I would change to a Glock26 (9mm) if you are going to carry it all the time. I am going to get a Glock27 (.40) this weekend at the Tulsa gun show. I'm trading in a S&W 6906 (9mm).

I got an IWB holdster from K&D Holdsters for my Springfield Armory XDM 40 and it's great. They hand make the holster so if you're willing to wait, you can't go wrong with K&D.

I am carrying in a crossfire supertuck until my Comptac mtac gets here next week. I really like the supertuck for the glock 23 I carry. I ordered the mtac to carry a 1911 officer model.

A BG wearing an OU hat or shirt should stay clear of this gun for sure.

OK, the mtac got here today and I will not ever wear the supertuck again unless I break the clip or something on the mtac. This is the most comfortable IWB I have ever worn! I don't even notice the officer model 1911 on my hip at 2:30.

Are you wearing this on your hip or behind your back?

It is just in front of my hip, between 2:30 and 3:00, belly button 12:00. I have not changed the cant of the holster because it was comfortable just as they had it set up. I have ordered two leather iwb holsters from two different makers but they are 8 weeks minimum out so I will wear the mtac full time until they get here, maybe forever if they aren't extremely comfortable.

Hey Pokefun...I too carry an officers model but would love to carry my 5" if I could do it comfortably. Have you tried the mtac with a govt size 1911? My other concern with the mtac is the kydex holster versus leather. I have had one of those take the finish off one of my Beretta's after repeated use. Does it seem to be really tight, where is it putting the pressure when holstered? Sorry for all the questions! It is very rare to get holster reviews from a Cowboys perspective! :)

I was somewhat concerned about losing finish, but I have not seen the beginnings of that as of yet. The gun seems to not move at all in the holster and the mtac can be adjusted for snugness by tightening or loosening the screws that hold the kydex to the leather. The screws have rubber bushings under them that squeeze down as you tighten the screws. I haven't tried the government size in the mtac because there is enough difference in frame size that it will take another kydex body. I have carried a government model in a galco holster that I modified to be an iwb instead of outside. I really don't think there will be a finish problem with the mtac because the gun doesn't move at all, but I will report back to you when I have more time with the holster.
