Default New LB Recruit

Here is some information on a new LB recruit visiting this weekend.

http://www.buckeyeplanet.com/forum/2...eve-greer.html

His name is Steve Greer.
There is a video on the website.
He looks like a hoss.

Well, his first name alone means he will the best to ever play, but I'm not biased or anything.

Stealing a prototypical LB from Big 10 country would be nice.

Seeing him, makes me think of AJ Hawke and Leonitus (sp?) of tOSU and all of the one's from Penn State. I have always liked those type of linebackers.

I wouldn't mind seeing us land him. I wonder what our chances are.

Almost has to be a Beckman tie somehow. I can't recall any prospects from Ohio in the past to visit not to mention signing.

Indeed, he is one of Beckman's targets.

I believe our main competition for Greer will be UNC.

Well then you are forgetting one of our best former offensive lineman who also just happens to be a poster on this forum.... Sam Mayes! He was one that we stole out of Ohio and I am sure there were a few Big ten programs that wished he hadn't gotten away.

He's obviously a very tough player and a pretty good tackler.....which is what we're lacking (that and some smarter cbs)

So what are his college choices right now?

3 star according to Rivals.... I don't know about Scout.

Scout still has Markelle Martin as a 3 star WR even though he is a 4 star DB and still has all of our JUCO recruits rated as 1 star (except for Johnson)... I don't put much stock into what Scout says anymore.

guys the biggest problem we have with our linebacking corp is speed, not strength. this guy is too slow. he looks like he can hit but does not look like a good prospect if we are in the business of improving our defense.

you look at uo's linebackers they have speed..a tailback gets around the edge and its not end of story. they have linebackers that can run laterally. one of our biggest problems is that our linebackers as an overall unit were extremely slow last year. a linebacker blitz was almost worthless because it takes them so long to get into the back field. im being critical but the videos i watched do not make this kid look like the caliber athlete we need to be recruiting for our linebacker position.

trahan i believe has 4.4 speed...that is what we desperately need. not 4.7..thats like a DT.

You can live with 4.7 speed in it is a mlb. Speed is really needed on the outside. 4.7 is fine if the mlb is being used as a bigger run stuffer. Dont think he would play in passing downs, but he would be harder to block if teams are running down hill.

I agree. Remember, there is a lot of development in a freshman player; speed as well as strength AND savvy. I think he would be a great redshirt while he works on all of this. I suppose it all depends on how fast and strong he was last year. Is he improving, etc.?
