Default Who's Hot & Not ... SEC East, Oklahoma State

Who’s Hot …

Oklahoma State
The Cowboys have scored 55 points or more in the last three games and lead the nation in rushing averaging 340 yards per game. They're also leading the nation in punt returns thanks to Dez Bryant, who has caught 22 passes for 444 yards and six scores including three touchdowns in the shocking 55-24 win over Troy and its great defense. Next up is Texas A&M.

"The biggest surprise has been Oklahoma State which has scored a lot of points while subduing a soft non-conference schedule that's included Houston, Troy, Washington State and FCS opponent Missouri State. The Cowboys are averaging 51.8 points per game and have posted two of the top eight total-offense games in school history in the last three weeks. Their defense, however, remains suspect until conference play begins.

The Big 12's only real disappointment has been Texas A&M, where new coach Mike Sherman has limped to a 2-2 start set up by two early home losses including a stunning opener against Arkansas State. The Aggies' bowl hopes have been jeopardized by a green offensive line and a lingering shoulder injury to quarterback Stephen McGee."

I know. I found that on espn. I'm not shocked but I guess I'm not surprised that ESPN is underestimating us. go figure.

I remember UT's "Shock the Nation" tour in 1991 when they lost in shocking and breathtaking fashion to Miami in the Cotton Bowl.

And those 55 points against Troy was on cruise control! Ohio State knows about Troy.

We got a lot of love from the talking heads on ESPN last summer, with some of them even picking us to upset UGA. Then they gave up on us after the disaster at Troy. Thus, we got no attention from them over the summer. So, it shouldn't surprise anyone that they found our 55 points over Troy, who pretty much outplayed Ohio State the week before even though they lost, to be shocking.

But dang was it freaking sweet to take Troy to the woodshed. Dang was it sweet to finally get that taste of crow out of my mouth.

I don't think anyone has seen much more than vanilla so far this year. I wasn't able to see the Troy game, but I don't think they've opened up the playbook all the way on either side of the ball yet. I think that will come at Mizzou.

And that prospect makes me feel really secure. So if you disagree, don't tell me.

I don't know about everyone else, but the praise they have been getting recently makes me nervous. And it's not that they don't deserve it, and I don't want our players to get the recognition they deserve. I guess I'm just really nervous about the a&m game and I'd like to see them win that game and then get their due respect.

In my dreams last night, I dreamt we were up 30-0 going into the 4th against A&M. Then our "break but don't bend" D ended up giving up 41 unanswered points. I don't remember exactly how they scored but our guys were standing around letting them come back. I sure hope this won't be the case come Saturday.

We don't have a "bend but don't break" D. We have a "bend and then break" D. If we try that crap at Mizzou or OU, it will quickly turn into the "bend over" D.

I've thought the same thing.

Everyone always talks about success in the Red Zone. Last night I expanded the Red Zone from 20 to 100 yards... Since our second TD against Houston in the 2nd quarter OSU has been 73% in my New Red Zone!

But that is a little deceiving, it is actually better than that.

2 Possessions ended with OSU running out the clock at the end of the game.
1 Possession was a missed FG from the 35 as the clock expired.
1 Possession we punted with 43 seconds remaining in the game.

So if you don’t count 3 of those (leave the missed FG) then OSU is 80% in the New Red Zone!

Additionally much of this was accomplished with the 2nd and 3rd string on the field.

I know how you feel. My OSU fan-ness is showing its head. I am getting a little nervous about this A&M. I guess I have learned over the years not become overly confident.

Nevertheless, I expected up to be 5-0 before the season started, but I had us ending 7-5. I am starting to wonder if we can do better than that? I think I need to see the Mizzou game first.

5-0 after this weekend. We should also beat Colorado, Iowa State and Baylor. That is eight wins. If we are as good or close to as good as the a top 25 team then it isn't too far out there to think we can win against Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Missouri. Right now I'm thinking 8-4 or better....
