OSU's 3 highschool bb recruits' playoff action
Here's an excerpt from the Alexandria, LA, paper's website's story on Markel Brown's team's last game:
Going into halftime with a narrow 21-19 lead, [Coach] Smith
knew his team had to make adjustments if they were
going to win.
"We needed to pick up the intensity," Wagner said.
"We're a second-half team, so we came out with a lot
of confidence."
They also came out with perhaps the best player in
the state in Markel Brown. The Oklahoma State
signee opened the second half with a three-pointer,
and the Warhorses built a eight-point lead. It was as
close as McDonogh 35 would get for the remainder
of the game. . . .
Brown totalled 21 points to lead all scorers, adding
five blocks.
--So Peabody goes on in the playoffs.
--Not so for Amarillo Palo Duro, team of Michael Cobbins; they lost 72-69. Cobbins had 14 in the loss, 17 in their previous playoff win.
As far as our other LA recruit, shooting guard Brian Williams of Glen Oaks high, they won their first playoff game 71-42--no other stats--and have their second playoff game Thursday March 4th. They are one of eight teams left in LA class 4-A (5-A is biggest); Markel Brown's team is another. So it is possible that these two OSU recruits could face off against each other in the playoffs for 4-A, either in the semi-final or final (I don't know the brackets as such).
