It is not just one player. The team has all but said they agree with her position and they essentially kicked off arguably the best player on the team because she refused to endorse LGBT causes and lifestyles. Also, I am pretty sure he did not say he was rooting against the US, just not rooting for them. There is a difference and a middle ground which is apathy toward the sport as a whole. Almost $6B vs. $150M in tournament revenue screams apathy IMO.
First, lets not mix incorrect information. The player was not kicked off the team. And while a good player she only had 3 games in her life with the US national team. I applaud that she stood her ground on what she believed in, but that is not why she was not on the team.

Not rooting for the US team is not much different than rooting against when you have two choices for a game. The author is as weak-minded as Rapinoe IMO. They seem to both be easily swayed and hypocritical. Dude is about as bad as anti-Trumpers who won’t vote for him even against a socialist.

So you would not root for OSU in a game if one player made anti-Trump views? I am orange to the bone and will always root for OSU. Also, I have red, white, and blue and will always root for US teams in whatever sport we are playing.
Many people, even outside American soccer, have said the girl that was not invited was the best forward in the women's game. They were shocked she wasn't picked. She wasn't kicked off, they just didn't offer her. But don't act like her Christian stance had nothing to do with it because it's obvious.

Look I think Rapinoe’s actions are disgraceful and she is an attention-grabbing whore who puts herself before the team (other than Kaep there is no sports figure I despise more and respect less)... but we shouldn’t be making up stuff to attempt to make the argument stronger.

You are referring to Jaelene Hinckle. No doubt she is a very good player, but she hasn’t been on the US team for three years. She plays in the NWSL (national women’s soccer league) and last year did not make either first or second team. In fact, only one American in that league made all-league in her position. And that player did not make the US national team either.

PS. Lindsay Horan, who may be the best player in the world, was inexplicably benched for most every game.

If they kicked off/didn't allow a person on the team, who was good enough, but simply didn't share their ideological views then that is a different situation altogether. THEY are the bigots. Calling Trump one just makes them hypocrites as well. Wish I would have known that before, it changes things.

To use an example from this thread: If OSU just had a player or even many players who were kneeling for the national anthem and calling Trump a racist, I would still cheer for OSU....I would criticize those players but still pull for the team. However, if the OSU athletic program kicked off or refused to allow someone to participate on the team because of what they believed or how they looked, then I would NOT be rooting for the team until that policy changed. That does not make me a bad fan of OSU, quite the opposite, it makes me a good fan of OSU. Same for teams representing this country....there is no room for that kind of hate on our national teams.
