Drew didn't build it from scratch. He brought the program back from 6 feet under, from absolute disaster - from a point where people truely felt sorry for the BU basketball program. This is either one of the most amazing turnarounds of a basketball program in the shortest period of time, or there are issues.

there is simply too many rumors, coaches speaking out, radio personalities alluding to it, message board threads about it, etc. the old addage "where there's smoke there's fire" applies in this case. baylor will get hit for something. it may not be much, but something will come out of all this.

players aren't going to baylor b/c drew is a good coach (b/c he isn't a good coach), they aren't going to baylor b/c waco is a beautiful, scenic destination, it's not b/c of the girls, and it sure as hell isn't b/c all these M'c D AA's want to go to a baptist school.

I think it's purely coincidental that Drew is hated by every other basketball coach on the face of the planet and he's just misunderstood.

Just because multiple NBA lottery picks would all decide to go to a school in the middle of nowhere with little to no basketball history over every other traditional elite program in the country you assume that they're cheating? For shame.

And Donovan was hated at first, too. Remember that Donovan was the coach who showed up in a high school parking lot to wave at a recruit b/c, at the time, the rule only said that a coach couldn't speak with recruits during dead periods.

Do I think Drew is explicitly cheating? Nah. Do I believe he gets right up to that line and pushes the envelope? Yes.

I think Drew is hated for a combination of the following reasons (and I'm sure there are others):

    1. He is very public about his faith while not complying with the spirit of NCAA rules. I do think he is safely within the letter of the rules. But I can see what this would rub other people the wrong way.

    2. Through very unique circumstances, Drew ended up a coach at a BCS program in his early 30's. While most other coaches have to pay their dues, coaching as assistant coaches and HC's at undesirable schools, Drew was able to bypass all of that and take a gig that the vast majority of coaches don't get until their late 40's. Consider that Drew has the third longest tenure of any coach in the B12 and he's still the second youngest coach in the B12 (ISU's coach is the youngest). It's human nature to dislike people who don't have to pay their dues to reach a certain title/level within their chosen profession.

    3. As Drew pointed out, every coach that lost to Baylor in the 4-12 year was fired. For a few years there, it was simply unexpected that a coach would lost to Baylor.

    4. The stuff he's done on the recruiting trail, while not violating any rules, certainly seems to break some unwritten rules within the coaching fraternity.

Word mhp, word... as in, 'you took the word(s) right out of my mouth'. Heck if I know if Scott Drew is dirty or not - honestly don't really care. But I have to say that reading these egotistical Baylor fans blindly defending their cause sure does remind me why I stopped attending Southern Baptist churches many many years ago...
