I still believe that we will compete for the Big 12 crown and a BCS bowl. The coaches and players are all very confident -- much more so than any of the prognosticators and "experts".

We are NOT the old OSU of a good year, then 10 bad ones.

We have turned the corner and have the talent to replace Weeden and Blackmon just as we did ZRob and Dez.

This will be our best defense and our offense will utilize more of our entire options to win.

We may lose one or two in conference play, but so will everyone else and we'll be playing for the conference lead down the line. The only thing that can hold us back will be the voters (coaches and writers and the dirtbags like Herbsteit from ESPN) that will vote more for the traditional powers.

This is going the be the most fun year ever!

Maybe, but last year was pretty special. Of course, I think that we will win them all this year. And that would be the most fun year ever.

They scored pretty well against LSU, and their defense passed eyeball tests.

Those "eyeball tests" were blind to OSU last year.

OK....I know I am new to OSU and the BIG 12. My question is that with all this talk about the offense of WVU being this and that.........is OSUs 2nd ranked secondary not allowed to play in that game this year.......is it a new rule to help the new teams out. Just wondering.

Not to pile on, but if you keep believing that "average defenses" bit, you are going to be sorely disappointed in your results this season.

I hate to say it but Vegas is usually very close to being right on their picks and they say that we will lose to K state and ou; that is it. A lot can happen from now to then (like Knuckelhead) but as it stands now, Vegas says two loses. But no one is going to go undefeated in Big 12 play.

If OU has 1 injury on the o-line between now and our game, then we will curbstomp OU.

The thing that strikes me here is that many are writing us off due to losing Weeden and Blackmon. No doubt about it - those are huge losses. But many of the same, prior to 2011, put us at 3rd or 4th because they thought those two were system players - frauds, many a Sooner board poster said. The same people are now saying those system players were epic and irreplaceable.

If they were just system players then it would stand to reason that they could be replaced with some adequacy.

I'm not making that argument, really, because I thought they were never system guys to an extent beyond where everyone (other than a few) are system players. The system is there to put players in position to win. I think we will be good. OU is rightly favored due to its talent and its returning quarterback. But OSU finishing anywhere from 1st to 4th is a very reasonable pick.

    7th though? Complete ignorance.

Isn't it funny how when Weeden and Blackmon were here, all other teams' fans and ESPN discounted their abilities as being "products of the system we run"? Now that they're gone, they all act like they were the second coming of Peyton Manning and Jerry Rice, and we're going to be terrible this year. Which is it?

ESPN thinks we are fluke but they will be sadly mistaken again next year. This will be a common theme until we win a national title but I am confident that we will win one in the next 10 years.

Haha, trust me, I'm not a West Virginia Fan, I love the Big 12. I'm just a defender on how capable they might be this season, THATS ALL. To the other person who said something about Big 12 defenses vs. Big East defenses, the Big East defenses generally suck as well, i'm just saying the bottom half of the Big 12 defenses (Baylor, Kansas, Texas Tech etc) are terrible. You can't tell me Kansas' defense is any better than say, UCONN or Syracuse is all i'm saying. I do hope Oklahoma State does finish in the top 5 though and they do have that ability I just don't see top 3.
