OU over the years has had several "Boone Pickens", the Gaylord family and Sam Noble to name two.

Isn't Endowment like a savings account that is used as some type of collateral for when the college is building new projects? Most of the Branding Success campaign money is going directly to fund projects, faculty, and scholarships to my understanding.

Furthermore, we can be rivals on the sports fields/arenas, but we should equally celebrate OU's successes when it comes to academics. The stronger academically both OSU and OU are, the better it is for the state of Oklahoma.

The day that both OU and OSU are AAU members and/or considered top-tier universities will be a great day for this state.

    Get some perspective, people.

Well we are way behind th curve if our endowment is only $500 million.

    The top 10 are
    Harvard $31 Billion
    Yale $19.3 Billion
    Texas $17.1 Billion
    Stanford 16.5 Billion
    MIT $9.7 Billion
    Michigan $7.8 Billion
    Columbia $7.7 Billion
    Northwestern $7.1 Billion
    Texas A&M $7 Billion
    Pennsylvania $6.5 Billion

$500 million wouldn't even put us in the top 75.

Other schools of note from Big 12 or old Big 8 or SEC

OU's endowment is $777 million and ranks 68th
    Nebraska $1.2 Billion
    TCU $1.1 Billion
    Missouri $1.1 Billion
    Baylor $1 Billion

OU has several heavy benefactors, but none of them are of the Boone Pickens caliber.

No. It's like a mutual fund and you only use the interest to fund things. If you give OSU a million dollars, they won't use the million dollars. Ever. What you have given them is a steady flow of $70,000 (as an example, it fluctuates) per year. I know professor salary is an important reason to have a huge endowment. Look at Harvard with their 30 billion dollar endowment - they can spend whatever they want to get the best faculty in the country.

Got ya. That makes sense. Thanks for the info...I never quite knew what an endowment was.

Why are OSU fans bringing up OU in a thread that has nothing to do with them? If they did the same thing on their message board there would be OSU fans over there standing up for OSU.

We really need to stop acting like little brother.

Just to make sure all facts are correct. Best thing to happen for higher education in Oklahoma is Branding Success.
