I'm in the process of searching for a car. I've narrowed down my options to two. I know there are some smart car enthusiasts on here, so I'm just wondering what car you would choose if you had pick one. Both are in my budget, so at this point I'm really just looking at which is the best vehicle overall.

The two cars are the 2006 Infiniti G35 Coupe, and the 2008 Honda Civic Coupe. I found pretty good prices on both of them and now I just need to decide.

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Who will be paying for maintenance and repairs for the remainder of highschool and college? If it is you, I'd go with the Honda. If it is the parentals, I have a friend who has a 2006 or 2007 G35 that he loves, it is just a bit expensive when you have to replace a part.

Pretty different cars, one is a sport coupe with a V-6 the other a 4 cyl economy car. Both will have good resale if you drive them til the wheels come off. dds has a good point, who's paying for repairs and another item is gas...the V-6 will burn twice the fuel. Does the G35 require premium fuel? If so, there's another hit to the wallet every fill up. Both nice rides, especially for a kid. Just kidding. By the way, shave that sorry excuse for a mustache, ditch those horrible glasses and but a navy blazer. Buying a G35 won't help in the chick department if you look like squirrel. ;)

Get the honda, You don't want any part of the infiniti if it has problems. Speaking from experience.

G35 rear wheel drive. Civic is front wheel drive. Front wheel drive is much better in wet/snow. I would think the Honda would be more reliable in the long run as well. Also tires for the G35 would likely be twice the cost as for the Honda, another thing to consider.

For me it would be a no-brainer, G-35. Like others have said, do you want a sporty/luxury car or an economical car.

Can't go wrong with a Honda. My wife drives a 10 year old Accord that we bought new in 02 and have had no mechanical problems what so ever.

Probably my parents for the rest of HS, but then I'd imagine it will all be on me. I have read that repairs for the G35 are ridiculously expensive.

It's really just a matter of "Do I want the best looking and highest performing car, but have to pay a bit more?" or " Do I want the car that will be reliable and last a long time, and save money?".

I'm leaning toward the G35 right now, even though I know the Honda would be better for the wallet. It's just too sexy.

I have a girlfriend that I'm pretty serious with (as serious as a HS relationship can be, I guess), so that isn't my biggest concern. The look of the car is a big factor for me though, I won't lie.

I will add another point, be prepared for either car to get plenty of scratches and door dings in a high school, and college parking lot. A lighter color car will show both less than a dark color car. And in the Texas heat a white car will be quite a bit cooler than dark. Also, leather gets effing hot in the sun around here, so just FYI if you are looking at a dark leather interior.

Thanks for your help dds (and everybody else for that matter). Both of them are actually white, so that works out perfectly. I have to discuss it with my parents, but I think I'll probably end up going with the G35 when it's all said and done, even it it's not the most responsible decision. It's too good of an opportunity to pass up.

I can vouch for the front wheel vs rear wheel performance. I drove a Honda Accord and drove through snow 6 inches deep. I passed it on to my daughter and bought a rear wheel drive Nissan. We had a very light snow/sleet in OKC a day ago and I could not drive faster than 15 mph or I'd have been off the road.

Get the Accord now and use a higher-end car as incentive for getting through college and finding a decent job.

I had a a two door Accord coupe (which was surprisingly slick, even though it was the EX-L, so it had a V6, leather interior and all that crap) that I drove all through college. Certainly didn't scream money the way an Infiniti would, but in terms of being reliable and fuel efficient, it was pretty much perfect for a college student.

I was kidding. But hey, a cheesy mustache didn't stop Laundry Jones from completing passes. Granted he wasn't suited up in an ugly plaid sportcoat and didn't wear 5 pound glasses but hey, I'll bet he had a few chicks offer even with the porn stache.

Neither. If the G35 is in your price range, so is a BMW 330ci coupe. That's the car you want buddy. Forget the Honda Civic. You'll have plenty of time to be lame later in life.

how sad it is....as a father of 2, married for 11 years. I could not even consider anything but the Honda

I've actually been drooling over getting a new Ford Fiesta and their 40mpg rating

At some point in life your buying considerations in cars will change tremendously, but while your young and in the sweet spot of life to have some fun and some relaxation on making some questionable decisions, and your image means more to you than maintinence cost etc...get the SEXAY car.

Yeah, get a Miata. Few cars are as much fun with the top down. Maybe some will have difficulty that there is no back seat.
