Oklahoma State redshirt senior back Larry Joubert Jr. will retire from football due to a heart condition, he announced via Twitter on Monday night.

“As it makes me sad to make this post,” Joubert Jr. wrote. “I am no longer able to play the sport I love to play due to a heart condition that came up recently.”

He added that while still in good health, continuing to play football would be dangerous.

“I will continue to support my brothers both on the field and off the field and will be thankful for the opportunity of a lifetime playing at this level at this school,” Joubert Jr. wrote.

Joubert Jr., a Douglass High product from Oklahoma City, transferred from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and played six games both on offense and special teams last season. He also played in the Cowboys’ Liberty Bowl victory over No. 23 Missouri.
