I'm looking to taking a small vacation after school gets out to Denver. Going to fly up and get a hotel. Me and another person is going. What are some things we can do while we are there. I really don't want to rent a car so something within walking/cheap cab fare from the hotel. Just looking for some insight.

Sadly, the Rockies aren't playing when I will be there. And since I won't have a car I probably won't be able to make it to either the brewery or RTT memorial, unless they have buses that run between Denver and Fort Collins.

Where are you getting a hotel? That will dictate a lot of what's within walking distance, but RTD is always an option, it has pretty decent coverage through most of the city.

Which one? I presume the Curtis? Because all the other Double Trees are not even close to downtown, or anything for that matter. If you are staying at the Curtis, I would definitely recommend checking out 16th street. If you're into beer, and not wanting to rent a car to go up to Ft Collins, there's the Wynkoop brewery downtown at 18th & Wynkoop, and Flying Dog and Great Divide are both up on Broadway near Park. If you're into baseball, I would check out a tour of Coors even if the Rox aren't there. The Denver Zoo and the Museum of Natural History are just a mile or so east of downtown, too.

Hit the bars at night, Denver has THE most aggressive females I've ever seen. That's a good thing...

Probably won't be hitting up any bars. I have looked into the Museum of Nature and Science and I think that would be a blast. Also might go to the zoo, Six Flags would be another possibility. I will have to look into the touring of Coors Field. We might find time to tour a brewery, not sure if the person that is coming with me would be interested.

great divide brewery is right downtown... 21st and arapahoe. they have a little tap room and will let you tour the brewery for free. they have some of the best beers in the area, in my opinion. the celtic bar is fun... everyone there speaks with thick irish accents. i know a bus runs up to boulder as well. cheap and boulder is a very cool town. maybe the rockies aren't in town, but what about the nuggets? might be a playoff game though, so good luck getting tickets.

and it looks like your hotel is in the DTC.. so you will be using the light rail to get downtown.

EDIT: i lied, you aren't in the tech center, you are in a weird part of town, no light rail access over there, you'll have to cab it.

Well, your hotel is right on top of where the old Stapleton Airport used to be...if the Rapids are in town, and you like soccer, that's an option too, since their stadium is right there.

I would seriously look into renting a cheap econobox car. The trip will be much more enjoyable, and I don't think you would save that much using cabs, based on the location of your hotel.

Agreed, cab fare from the airport into town is atrocious. (That's what happens when Denver builds its airport in Kansas.)

I was in Denver for 3 weeks from March 26th -April 13th

The Double Tree is normally a nice place but they do have some minor construction going on. I would suggest the Renaissance just up the Street on Quebec.

Across from those hotels is a little shopping area with a Buffalo Wild Wings and a couple other chain type restaurants. Also a WalMart over there which came in handy.

The Northfield area is very close and has some nice restaurants/shopping/Target. There's also a comedy club in that area. I enjoyed La Sandia (Modern Mexican) and Ling & Louie's (Asian Fusion). If you want to drop the money there's a Texas de Brazil (Brazillian Steakhouse) will run you $43 a person for the food but they run a lot of Wine specials. Food was great and was a fun experience. Also ate at Toby Keith's but wouldn't really suggest it unless you want to go drinking. We happened to go on karaoke night and was pretty fun.

If you go South on Quebec to 7th-2nd (I think) you will be in the area that the old Air Force Academy was. Lot's of activity in that area. The Berkshire Pub was good eats and heard good things about Salty Rita. Must have been half a dozen Pub/Eatery type places in that area. Can't remember the name of the other place we ate but it was good as well. I would venture to say most of them were very good.

We made it downtown a couple times. We hit the Rockies game then made our way to Tilted Kilt and Coyote Ugly. We took a taxi downtown and it was roughly 20-30 bucks each way. Once you're down there you should find plenty to do. Someone mentioned 16th St, if you can get there you can find a ton of stuff to do and places to eat. I think that's near where we were or exactly where we were the few times we got Downtown. It's very happening area and very pedestrian friendly.

The last area to check out was called Cherry Creek, couldn't tell you exactly where it is but was toward downtown and not a bad drive from Quebec. We ate at an Italian place called Piatti. Was really good. I suggest the Gellato or whatever it's called, after the meal.

Hope that helps with some ideas. I was there for work so all we really had time to do was go eat at night.

Some plans have changed. Looked like the week of May 14th and probably staying at the Best Western at 3737 Quebec Street Denver, CO 80207.

I think the big things we plan are doing are as followed: Denver Zoo, US Mint, Natural History Museum, Rockies game. I'm sure we will find some other things to do, tour a brewery, shop, etc.
