An interesting possibility...I like the idea of bringing him in as back up PG; knows how to distrubute and run an offence and has championship experience....Gotta have more solid option behind Westbrook...He's getting a ton of minutes right now and Jackson has not shown consistent growth to be able to lead the team should Westbrook, God forbid, go down....Thoughts??

I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. Don't think he offers much as a player on the court, but it never hurts to have a guy with that many rings sitting on the bench.

What are some possible alternatives? Are there any other experienced point guards out there available?

I say get him. He can back up Westbrook and would give Brooksy the option of three-guard sets with KD @ the 4. Speed and athleticism. Hard to teach. Experience is there. Sign him to tw-year deal so you have trade options when Maynor cames back next year. Reggie is young and should develop behind Russ.

That's the problem though, he is not fast and he can't defend anyone anymore. He can still hit the open shot and handle the rock, but he isn't going to be doing much.

I agree but I think his use would be in the playoffs when the game slows down heavily. When people try to force us into half-court sets Fisher will come in handy as a seasoned intelligent PG who can run an offense. The bench OKC has is a dynamic unit and they play well as a team, having Fisher operate with that unit wouldn't be a bad thing at all. And it gives some leeway to Reggie to learn and get better without so much pressure.

Thunder have a full roster now, if they wanted to get Fisher they would need to waive someone from the roster according to Marc Stein .

Yeah they would have to cut either Ryan Reid or Lazar Hayward

I've heard the good and the bad that could come from getting Fisher. Like I've said about Gundy I feel the same about Brooks; I have confidence he will use Fisher in a way to enhance our team. He will find ways to minimize his downside and give him an opportunity to add that 6th ring.

Officially being reported on ESPN now. Looks like Fish will sign with OKC tomorrow. I like this move. I believe his timely shot-making, veteran leadership, and playoff experience will be much better for OKC than Jackson. Sure he is old, slow and defense is lacking, but Reggie Jackson has been erratic the entire season and has zero playoff experience. There is something being tweeted now that sounds interesting: "OKC brings DerekFisher in to rework CBA, allow them to sign Harden AND Ibaka." If someone understands that then please explain. If it is true then definitely a great pick up.

Something not mentioned is Fish would be an excellent locker room guy and a great mentor for these young guys when/if the going gets tough. He's been through those late season battles and knows a lot about the mindset needed to succeed. He would be an outstanding get if for nothing else than his experience, IMO.

On the floor I think he's got more than enough left to run the 2nd team and get spot duty with the first team. Looks like he's been averaging around 25mins per game which is about 10mins more than Maynor was getting. Reduced minutes would be something he would have to be prepared to deal with. Again, though, he's a true professional and wouldn't be one to cause a stir over that.

I think it's a joke as he is President of the NBA Players Association. Maybe he can have some influence on the Collective Bargaining agreement which would allow OKC to have enough money to resign Harden and Ibaka when the time comes.

Sure doesn't hurt to have a guy like that on your side, regardless! I think we will be without Perk and Sefolosha before Ibaka or Harden when that time comes. I would be shocked if we let either of those guys walk. As it is I think we have all of them locked up until 2014 and Perk til 2015. Looks like Sefolosha is here until 2013, Aldrich until the end of this year. So those may be some potential moves as well.

Absolutely love the move for this reason. Westbrook needs someone who has been there to teach him how to play the position. Westbrook is a fabulous athlete but has complete lapses in judgement at times on the court. Thunder will never win a championship without Russell improving dramatically his game management late in a game. I think this is part of the reason Harden has been handling more of the ball handling duties late in games this season.

Other than the T that he got the other night(I think it was Houston), He has done very well the last two weeks. I agree he needs to be a little more under control, but what makes him a great player is his emotion imo. There is a very fine line to where it is controlled and effective or controlled and ineffective.

I think it definitely can't hurt. At points I've worried about someone trying to tell Russell anything might cause him to rebel and act worse. I think Fisher's calm when the team struggles (like right now) will help and also when the playoffs start and the Thunder are forced to place a half-court offense will be the biggest benefits.

That is my concern because rather than help us with the salary cap, the head of a Union is more likely to convince our guys that they're not getting a good enough deal, to start thinking more selfishly and potentially to start to focusing more on "sticking it to the man" potentially destroying the good chemistry that has made us a contender. Hopefully I'm wrong about that but that is one concern I would have with having the head of a player's union added to the team......

A 10-year CBA has already been signed - there will be no 'influence' or 'reworking.' Since the cap is determined as a percentage of league revenues, Thunder fans need to hope that NBA revenues increase enough in the next 2-3 years to take care of Harden and Ibaka.

(Pokeville: sorry, I re-read that before I posted and it sounds more harsh than I intended. This is not a criticism of your post, but a comment on taking care of JH and SI.)
