Can anyone who moved from Oklahoma to the Houston area tell me how much of a change it was?

Especially moving with a family, young kids, ect...?

I have a very interesting opportunity that just popped up.

Moved to Houston as a single 20-something but am raising two kids in West Houston and would be happy to answer any questions.

Where are you moving from? Houston is massive at around 650 sq. miles, then add in the suburban areas. Population for greater Houston is roughly 6 million.

Just moved about 2 years ago from Broken Arrow to Katy (west Houston). It's an adjustment but honestly not as much as I thought it would be. Katy has great schools, awesome family neighborhoods. As SLVRBK says it all depends on the area.

Biggest difference is diversity, better beer, more traffic, more concrete, great restaurants, but mostly more opportunity. Sounds like you'll be in the burbs, unless you got the cash to buy a house zoned to Memorial or Stratford (much easier to do). Where in town is your potential job?

The opportunity is somewhere around 2000 Oil Center Court, Houston, TX (plus or minus on the street address).

The other half of my opportunity is taking a RIF package to get out of a dead end job which will be 34 weeks pay starting either in June or July.

I haven't searched much, and already getting offers. :pistols:

Over near Bush Airport...several good places to live with Humble, Kingwood, Champions, Spring, Tomaball and The Woodlands all within decent driving distance. All are suburbs, well Kingwood was annexed to the city of Houston several years ago. I haven't lived in those areas but have some friends in that area, if you have an specific questions I would be happy to get answers from them.

Yeah, Goode Co is my favorite is Houston proper, the Nonmachers comment was due to the media extravganza they got caught in due to a picture on the wall.

Although my parents live in Kingwood, I've never lived in any of the suburbs. I've spent plenty of time in Katy, Woodlands and Kingwood though. Given the geography you gave us, I'd recommend either Kingwood or the Woodlands. I like Kingwood better, as each have their own feel to them, but to each his own.

As far as the job search goes, there are plenty of companies hiring in the HOU market...I'm sure if you're looking to move then you could find something right for you. Good luck!

Not exactly looking to move, but will be RIF'd here in Tulsa in June. It would be easier not to move, but a friend through a very interesting opportunity my way.
