This will spur more question about brain damage to football players

I don't know about that. I think a lot of famous and well-accomplished athletes and celebrities hit rock bottom once they witness their lifestyles/careers fade away. I'm sure it is tough to take.

I don't think blaming "brain damage" is the answer.

Except that he shot himself in the chest just like a former NFL player who requested his brain be donated for research into the damage that was done to it thus causing his issues. Just saying it is not as common for a suicide by gun to be done in the chest, normally it is the head.

Obviously we have to wait and see, but early onset dementia has driven some of these guys down this road. Wasn't he still working as an announcer?

If it does turn out to be a brain issue, it's going to kill any chances of an appeal on the Vilma suspension.

The chest isn't as common, that's for sure, but the Springfield, Illinois mayor did just that in December 2010.

His mom's brief media appearance was very sad. She wasn't able to compose herself, heartbreaking.

Wow. Surprised she even tried. My grandfather put the gun in his mouth & pulled the trigger almost 16 years ago. I can talk about it now, but the day it happened, I had absolutely NO composure.

She had a few people helping her stand while she spoke for about 2 minutes.

Media already saying that he shot himself in the chest because he wanted his brain examined after his death

Seen several media reports already speculating that he was suffering from a career of concusions

Tragedies coming from former NFL players are becoming too common, this is sobering...

I don't know how anybody could be composed under such a circumstance. Having to bury your own child (regardless of age) has to be one of the worst things a person can go through. :(

Interesting that Seau has never been placed on IR or missed any games with "concussion" as the reason. Of course that doesn't mean he never had one.
