Consider this article re-confirmed. I lived in Lawrence for 8 years. When people would find out I was from Oklahoma nearly everybody I met just had to inform me that Kansas beat OU in the 1988 title game. And not just tell me, they would want a response from me. If I didn't say anything some people would bring it up again later. Some KU fans would tell me again if OSU or OU was beating KU, even in football.

And some Kansas fans actually think basketball was invented in Lawrence. Now they wouldn't go around saying it to just anybody. This is kept between themselves. Many people, who probably thought I was one of them (a KU fan) would bring that subject up. "You know Dr. Naismith coached here and so-and-so did this for basketball while here". Sometimes I would just say "no you can't. It was invented in Illinois". This was shocking to many of them. A friend of mine was a teacher in Lawrence. Some of her students would write their paper on this subject of basketball being invented in Lawrence. She was from Indiana and was amazed at how KU fans were telling their kids this stuff.

And currently my sister and niece live there in Lawrence. My niece attends Sunflower Elementary on the west side of town. Her school tells the students they can only wear KU clothes. Kansas State is acceptable but the students aren't told this. No OU or OSU stuff is allowed. No Thunder, KC Chiefs, or any other gear is allowed. The school will tell the student to change or turn it inside out and if the logo is still visible, even inside out, the student is sent home. One student couldn't go home so she had to wear a coat all day.

It's like they have their own little cult going.

Kansas blows......they get the best basketball players in the country and need the officials to help them win games. They kind of remind me of Texas in Football. Either way, I can't stand them or their fans.......so much arrogance and really for nothing. At least the Texas fans are nice people but KU basketball fans are total d-bags.

The clothing thing is actually true? You get in trouble for not wearing KU or KState stuff?

It wouldn't surprise me....I went to Kansas City to visit a buddy of mine and some guy wanted to fight me because I said that there is a chance that Bill Self wanted to opt out of KU for the OSU coaching vacancy.

Oh my mistake. Let me clear this up. The students can wear typical school clothes. But if they are going to wear school/team-related clothing it can only be KU or K-State.

And let me add this. My niece said the boys in her class, the fourth grade, wear KU attire on basketball game days and those boys who don't wear KU clothes to class are asked why not by those who did. Some of these boys refuse to even play with the non-KU supporting boys at recess or sit with them at lunch. And the teachers do nothing to stop this.

If teachers tried to stop every dumb thing grade school boys do they would never teach.

Also, I don't know where Dr. Naismith was when he did it but he definitely did invent the game of basketball so you can see how the confusion might come in.

My dad went to Mizzou, so I grew up hating kU but after I lived in Kansas City one summer it vamped up the hatred about 4 times. The worst thing is you can't even bring up how bad they suck at football bc most of them are nub fans in fb.

Yes, I know that, you know that. Heck even KU fans know that. But they argue that was actually invented in Lawrence. Makes no sense to me.

You said Illinois so I just wanted to let you know. Just a small meaningless fact that doesn't affect your story much.

I agree with the article's sentiment. I grew up in Kansas, I liked KU like many people growing up in the state. However, after reading some of the comments that Kansas fans had after the ISU game, I was disgusted.
Even worse, I texted friends that were KU fans just to see what they thought about the game. Even the best would say something like, yeah, there was a questionable call at the end, but Elijah Johnson just went off, that's why we won.
Sorry, Steph Curry scored 54 the other night against the Knicks, they didn't give Golden State the win just because he had a ridiculous game.
At the end of the day, KU fans can't accept that they benefited from multiple calls when it mattered the most. Watching as an unbiased viewer it looked fixed.
I think he's right, KU fans will always be KU fans.

I just want to know which KU booster has paid for this. Boone says he won't cheat, maybe someone else could do this for us?

If you really want to upset a KU fan, tell them Naismith thought wrestling was a better sport.
