DEFENSIVE INGENUITY

Grade: A

The OSU defense varied their looks and changed up their schemes throughout the game Saturday. It kept Boise State on its heels, particularly when it came to where the Cowboys were going to bring pressure. Bronco quarterback Brett Rypien hadn’t faced near as much pressure in the first two games as he saw Saturday, and while he stood in admirably, sometimes the onslaught was too much. OSU’s effectiveness was directly linked to its creativity. Sometimes, Jim Knowles sent linebackers on blitzes up the middle. Sometimes, the defensive coordinator used defensive linemen around the ends. It made for an extremely rough day for Boise and an extremely good one for OSU.
