STILLWATER - If you believe what you read, Oklahoma State should change its nickname to the Interlopers.

Party Crashers would also work. As would Intruders, Outsiders and several other words college football's elitists have trotted out the past 48 hours while describing the Cowboys.

The Bowl Championship Series snobs have their noses out of joint over OSU's historic ascension to the No. 2 spot in the BCS Standings.

"If it was left up to all the commentators and analysts, you wouldn't see teams like us get a chance to play in the national championship game," OSU defensive end Richetti Jones said Monday. "They talk about the SEC or Stanford or this team or that.

"The only people they want to see play are from the prestigious universities."

Jones means athletic prestige - tradition-rich football powerhouses. And it's hard to argue with Jones' contention that the college game's old money doesn't quite know what to make of these nouveau riche Cowboys.

There is widespread evidence that suggests the traditionalists don't believe OSU is BCS worthy. And they want somebody to whip the undefeated Cowboys (9-0, 6-0 Big 12) so they just go away.

For example: The Pokes and their former pro baseball player turned college quarterback, Brandon Weeden, should be the season's most compelling story.

But Weeden continues to get scant mention as a Heisman Trophy candidate. And several so-called experts demonstrated their lack of faith in OSU in their latest bowl projections.

They don't even project the Cowboys to make it to a BCS bowl, let alone the national championship game. They predict one of their traditional programs, bitter rival Oklahoma (8-1, 5-1), will restore BCS order by winning the Dec. 3 Bedlam Series shootout.

Somewhat vindicates and validates the Rodney Dangerfield crowd on the board.

I think we are as much of an outsider as Stanford is. If "Luck" wasn't stitched on the back of their QBs jersey, they would be getting even less love.

There is some truth to this for sure. However, I think as long as OSU wins the next two weeks. I wanna go to the Title game really bad but if not should make a BCS Bowl. It would be stupid for OSU not to make a BCS bowl in that scenario.

The gradual, nearly uninterrupted ascent of OSU football since 2006 represents a rip in the space/time continuum and the snobs can't wrap their little pea brains around it. Their traditional darlings are down and out due to cheating and coaching upheaval and they are in an unprecedented snit and trying to crown Stanford among the noveau riche and keep us podunks out of the conversation.

Earthquakes, Snowmageddon, super tornado outbreaks, 115 degree summers...all symptoms of this phenomena.

It's what many oSu fans have been complaining about over the last few weeks.

It seemed as though a few weeks ago, we were getting a lot of love. Many media pundits were giving us Cinderella admiration.

However, no one counted on OSU continuing to win. Suddenly, many (just like those that Richetti described) were upset that OSU was a serious contender for the National Championship game.

Guys like Kirk Herbstreit (a sportscaster I once respected, but no longer do) began to get more adamant about OSU's place in the potential BCS contenders race. His bias for Big 10 and SEC teams, especially lobbying for an LSU/Bama rematch, has become almost comical.
Watch as he becomes more psychotic in his defense of old school programs making the title game.

We don't know how much of this is pressure from his bosses at ESPN/ABC to push for bigger market/ bigger draw teams to make the marquee bowl match ups.

ESPN/ABC's greed is becoming as evident as Deloss Dodd's. In fact, they've been sleeping together for some time -- it's usual that couples begin to share personality traits after long periods of exchanging bodily fluids.
These two are definitely a part of the 1%.

ESPN/ABC would love to see the big markets involved somehow in the big bowl games. Stanford is the West Coast favorite and possibly the only PAC -12 representative that has a chance to make the big game. Watch how the talking heads spin should Oregon knock the Luck out of the west coast leader.

The Big 10 isn't going to have a rep. Ohio State is going to suck for a while and Herbie doesn't like it. He's ticked off that Oklahoma State is getting attention and being called OSU instead of his failing Buckeyes.

The other Big 10 draw, Penn State, is going down....and I don't mean just the defensive coordinator either. (pad dum bum -- *crash*)

Nebraska, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State?-- PUUUULEEAAASE!

Everyone is getting off of Herbie's LSU/ Bama rematch wagon. No one wants to see it.

Herbie's face might work on chicks, but it won't swing the football bowl people.

Here's the rub -- the networks want big name programs to make them money. They sell more advertising because there's more people interested. The sheeple out there are not familiar with us. Heck, most of the sports folk, especially on both coasts, are not familiar with us other than how mediocre we've been in the past. It takes too much effort for them to read about us or even care about us.

America loves the underdog and we are the underdog, but they also love to live in the past were Notre Dame, Nebraska, USC, Penn State, Michigan, Bama and Texas were consistently in the big games at the end of the year.

The occasional surprise of Boise State, TCU or OSU makes for good tv, but the reality is the networks want big numbers to translate into big dollars.

Well, screw the networks, our state's doubters and all of their minions!

    Let's show the world.
Let's do this for us -- the long suffering OSU program, it's fans and our OSU future.

Seriously I was thinking how crazy it would have been if the earthquake had just happened about 10 minutes earlier. Imagine we are on the verge of history but K-State has a chance to blow the whole thing. 1 second left the whole world is watching, the K-State receiver is about to make a catch and an earthquake (in a state that rarely has earthquakes) causes him to miss it. It really would confirm the idea that we are destined.

On the other hand imagine if the earthquake caused our defender to fall and the receiver makes the catch. The woe is us, God doesn't want us to win crowd would never stop buzzing about it.

Odd. I checked the bowl projections on espn.com this week and it had us in the MNC against LSU. I was listening to Bill King on XM this morning and he and his guest (Charles Davis from Fox Sports) were discussing how they would much rather see how our offense would perform against LSU than see a rematch. They even mentioned the possibility of us playing Stanford in the MNC if things get crazy over the next few weeks.

I think when it comes to the talking heads, we need to remember that they are going to talk about the big, traditional powers because those teams move the needle. Right now, OSU is an interloper because we have never been here before. Give it another season or two. Win the MNC. Make a few BCS bowls. Then OSU will get the love of all the gasbags on tv.

The funny thing is it still comes down to this.... we win and were in. That will shut them up. Certain people will always look down on us till we do this for an even longer period of time. If the next couple years we are in the national championship race we wont have this many doubters. I could care less what the media says. We know what team we have and its only a matter of time before everyone catches on. Some people will always hate on us and thats fine. Cant please everybody. What better way to give them the middle finger than to keep winning.

No big deal. We can shut them all up if we just keep winning. It's totally in our hands.

Not too confident they'll shut up about it. They will scream loudly for an overhaul that enriches the traditional powers that bring in ratings and $$$. I think they like Cinderella stories, but only Cinderella stories they can market to what they perceive as the slack-jawed masses.

Hmm, players noticing it too, huh? Guess the media bias REALLY does exist that some on this board staunchly ignore...

Some do love us, though. Joey Galloway is on board with Oklahoma State on ESPNU right now -- even calling OSU "us" (comes natural I guess from a tOSU guy) -- arguing with Jason Sehorn, who has repeatedly said "Oklahoma State can't play a lick of defense" and is only siting the K-State game.
