I realize we are still a ways away from spring fever in Stilly. However, assuming he progresses well and is the physical stud he appears to be, and other factors such as depth, injury, etc., which is the best approach:

    A) Redshirt - Let him sit a year and develop in the system to have a legit shot at 3-4 solid years
    B) Baptism by fire - Start a true freshman and 'season' him with experience (2-3 solid years)

If he is good enough...play him. That is why you gave him a scholarship, to kick @$$. Ever hear of a player that was recruited to solely sit on the bench?

May be the best man win. If he plays the best in practices/scrimmages, start the kid.

I am going with Option A. Better to get a possible good to great 3-4 years after a year in the system and weight room, than the chance of a destroyed confidence (typical frosh mistakes) and/or injury which could lead to minimal or no years.

Option A for sure. If he's good this year with no experience wait until he has a year under his belt in our weight room and learning our system. The kid will be a monster!

I've never heard of scholly to sit, but definitely scholly to develop. Granted, he looked pretty developed in the Marine AA game but given time and the possibilities could be endless. On a side note, Bobby Petrino has a RS Scholly developing (AKA riding the pine) that is just as good if not better than the current starter. When he takes over, nothing will change, they shouldn't even miss a beat. On the other hand, if he appears light years ahead of Chelf and/or Walsh, then it may be exciting to give him the nod.

s to be my choice as well, Big. I think the physical tools will only improve with 2 pre-seasons in the weight room and tweaking mechanics. I am being a bit selfish in that I would love to see him as a 5th-year-senior. Chances are if he gets the chit beat outta him year one, his mental toughness will have to be years beyond his physical traits. All things considered, I am happy he's a Cowboy and enrolled early. Whichever is the case, his first year is likely his least productive. Therfore, redshirt would be awesome. Go Pokes.

He'll be 220lbs by the start of Fall practices. 6-5, 220. Cannon arm. I'm drooling. No homo.

OU, Notre Dame, Nebraksa, etc. all the big name schools used to do this before scholarship limits were put in place. Basically recruit all the best athletes so that they wouldn't play for one of their opponents. Lots of talent just wasting away on the bench.

If he is good enough, play him. If he is all that we hope he is, he may only be here for three years. No sense wasting one of those years as a redshirt. If he is not ready, then redshirt him. HCMG will know what to do.

I've watched the kid practice!!! Utterly amazing. Not to mention, the back-up is talking transfer because he knows he doesn't have a chance at QB.

3 good choices for the spring - let the best start. We don't know the maturity of each, so it is all a guessing game on our part.

My thought is that if he is the equal of or better in practice than the rest, start him right away.

If he gives us the best chance to win then he should play.

Just curious, can anyone think of some true freshmen pocket passers that have started at major programs? Matt Barkley is the most recent in my memory and he was very average that year.

I'm not making a case for or against Lunt, I'm just curious about the history of starting a true freshman pocket passer.
