So the Pokes are only 10 spots higher than the beginning of last year.

    Gavin Lang@glang1
#okstate is No. 19 in the initial USA Today coaches poll.

    • Five teams in this year's preseason top 10 — Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, Oregon and Florida State — were in the top 10 to start last season. Alabama, LSU and Oregon still were in the top 10 when the 2011 season ended.
    • Florida, ranked 23rd, kept alive its string of appearing in every preseason poll since USA TODAY Sports took over administration of the coaches' poll. Ohio State had a similar streak, but it ended this year because the team is ineligible for votes in the wake of NCAA sanctions.
    • The American Football Coaches Association bars teams under major NCAA or conference probation from receiving votes. However, because Central Florida said it is appealing a football bowl ban handed down Tuesday by the NCAA, it will remain eligible until the NCAA rules on the appeal. In addition to Ohio State, North Carolina and Penn State are ineligible for votes this season because of NCAA sanctions.
    • Balloting had concluded before Penn State running back Silas Redd announced he would transfer to Southern California.
    • No Big East team is ranked in the preseason poll for the second consecutive season. West Virginia (18th) and Cincinnati (21st) finished last season in the rankings. However, West Virginia has since moved to the Big 12. The Mountaineers are 11th in this season's preseason poll.

Interesting about Florida being ranked in every preseason USA Today poll since the coaches poll went there. I literally don't know one thing about Florida's squad going into this season. No players come to mind, nothing. That seems so weird compared to how things used to be in Gainesville.

OU is ranked #4 what a joke! lol. I could see around 10 or so but based on what? OSU #19 is about right at least preseason with a frosh QB. I'm hoping we are able to climb up.

FSU taking their usual top 10 ranking. We'll see how many weeks it takes this time for them to completely fall out.

When you return 9 (10) on offense and 7 on defense. They are going to get looked at, even though they have yet to show who their QB is.

I'll use other factors than a janky pre-season poll to judge whether or not oSu has arrived.

Isn't putting Texas at #15 like basically putting them in last place? I think that's literally as far down the poll as they can go.

Coach Gundy was asked about OSU's low pre-seanson rankings and he said that a lot of the ranking is based on how experienced and good your QB is.

Apparently the people who voted for Texas weren't aware of this.

    Yes like Stanford. Oh......Wait........

19th is a good place to start another run to a BCS game.

Exactly why there should be no rankings until mid season.
