Worse case scenario--and it isnt the end of the world. It would be a salty football conference, and a decent hoops, baseball conference.
10 teams until 35.7 million per team expires in 2025.
then add 2 more for 12.
Big 12 west
Big 12 east
There isnt going to be super leagues. The PAC and BIG plus big 12 are putting a stop to that, the SEC, and ESPN.
whole premise for the SEC adding OU and Texas was expanded playoff to 12, and the SEC getting 6 teams on a regular basis. Of course when the SEC commissioner was negotiating that...
ACC will add Notre Dame. If it cant, it will add WVU and Oklahoma Sttae(although im hearing Cowboys have no interest in ACC). Why? to increase the football quality. Something Clemson and FSU will demand if they stay.
And WVU and Oklahoma State add market value and football quality better than...
Dennis Dodd reporting that ESPN was trying peddle off all 8 big 12 teams to the aac. No wonder WVU and Oklahoma State are pissed.
originally speculated it was just 3-5 teams, and those least likely to land elsewhere.
My current prediction is that in 2025 WVU and Oklahoma State end up in acc.
couple of points:
1. Oklahoma State isnt likely to end up in sec. SEC wants vt and nc state more, and sec can afford to be patient after getting UT and OU.
2. If FSU or clemson get an sec invite they're gone. they will...
It looks as if ESPN was trying to get the remaining 8 big 12 teams to the AAC. Likely with a bit of a money boost.
It also looks like the remnants can continue to get 37.5 million a year through 2025 if we stick together.
i think wed have to add 2 teams to make up the content. BYU and UCF...
There is no 100 percent factual information to have. And WVU and Oklahoma State better not wait for 100 percent factual confirmation before acting.
Here are timeline facts:
1. OU and Texas have notified Big 12 they're leaving. They have been conspiring to leave for at least 6 months.
According to "insiders" at burntorangenation Texas has the 80 million exit fee and will use it to be in the SEC for the 2022 season.
That would leave the big 12 with 9 teams for 2022. if no team is added, the big 12 revenue for 2022 will be cut bc we wont be able to produce the required content...
There are 3 power 5 schools that do not have a r1 designation by Carnegie.
3. Wake Forest
BYU also is not an r1 research university.
So, not only are BYU, TCU, and Baylor "religious" schools greatly disfavored by the PAC, they also are among the very worst academically. And...
Players are going to get paid. hell, Bama's new qb already has a million dollars. Can transfer anywhere at anytime for any reason.
College football as we've known it is dead. I will never watch a single game of the SEC. I'll follow WVU even if they are in the AAC. Might actually still be fun...
If I were an OSU fan, i think my preference would be to a more football oriented conference that has some cultural fits. OSU will be a cultural outlier in the PAC.
And what if California closes that private fund travel loophole? you say no way, but people in california are crazy.
and do you...
Another thought. IS Oklahoma one of the states California law bans its state funded universities from traveling to?
I know UCLA had to use private funds to go to a ncaa tourney site in a banned state. Not sure they could/would use private funds for every sports team to travel to texas or...
ESPN radio just reported WVU to ACC will be the first move by the Big 12 remnants.
I woulds certainly hope ACC has the sense to see the value Oklahoma State brings.
While Oklahoma State would be a geographic outlier in ACC, I think that would still be best landing for you other than BIG or SEC.
The BIG sticks with AAU requirement bc presidents, not athletic directors, make the conference affiliation decisions. The BIG leads the nation in research dollars(were talking billions, dwarfing sports payouts). And those presidents have not looked in past too keen to add schools who dont add to...
I dont see Texas and OU leaving before the 2024 football season is finished.
If the remnants hold their feet to the fire, getting out is much worse than just paying 160 million in damages. they have to pay 160 million, forfeit money they earn this season, and the big 12 would still own their...
