WOW. Just WOW. I've never seen something like this

Hoping some of our engineers can help me with this one. It seemed pretty obvious from both of those videos that they felt the explosion before the really destructive shock wave hit. What are the physics behind that? Does the energy travel faster through the ground than it does through the air??

Going to add that everyone should click on @Binman4OSU post. I didn’t know that Russia had the FOAB which is 4 times stronger than our biggest non nuclear bomb, the MOAB. Nor did I know the history of massive non nuclear explosions. And we would’ve had to use 30 of our MOABs to equal this explosion. Just wow!

Suddenly, millions of arm chair warriors are pointing and saying “see?” It did look like a mini nuke.
I did see someone on Twitter making fun of the dirty bomb accusations. She said something like, “Stop freaking out about this being a dirty bomb. It was a fireworks warehouse explosion. I’ve seen others like this.”

I thought that didn’t sound right. I truly thought it was a dirty bomb/suitcase bomb. Especially since it was in Beirut. Mostly because of my extensive knowledge from Jack Ryan movies. Glad I was wrong.

I always thought after watching all those and living through some of the Cold War that we would see a city hit by a nuke. This is as close to that vision I want to get.

Beirut, Lebanon (CNN)A massive explosion ripped through the Lebanese capital Beirut on Tuesday, injuring many people and blowing out windows in buildings across the city.
The source of the explosion was initially believed to be a major fire at a warehouse for firecrackers near the port in Beirut, the state-run National News Agency reported.
The blast sent up a huge mushroom cloud-like shockwave and damaged buildings miles from the port, including the headquarters of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri and CNN's bureau in downtown Beirut.

Hard to believe that’s just a month ago.
