Re: NCAA Golf Championship - Round 1

Didn't know we started on the back. Looks like the front may be playing easier.
The front is easier. So I expect our guys to play well later.

15-17 are brutal. 15 is a 220 par 3, 16 is a 450 par 4, and 17 is the toughest hole on the course at 470 par 4 that plays into a south wind. (yardages approximate)

Just have to keep it in the fairway.

I think the last two years have proven that running away with stroke play is meaningless. We just need to stay in the top 8 and dominate in match play.

Any chance we go into this over confident and blow it?
let's expect to win- act like winners- scores are not gonna be that low on this course- that is because Karsten is difficult course.

i'm glad we aren't tearing it up-- we killed the crap out of everyone and then did good in match play only to lose title by a one lost match last year-- it's fine by me.

Re: NCAA Golf Championship - Round 1

We're not playing that bad. We're in the Top 8, we're the only team not to have a double bogey anywhere on the course by any player, and our worst score is +2.

So we're not playing bad, we just don't have that 1 player having a hot day to knock our score down.

But this is a marathon, not a sprint... and consistency will win.

Re: NCAA Golf Championship - Round 1

The course is playing tough today. The guys I walked with struggled and all they could do was compliment how challenging the course was. The Northwestern coach said only two individuals were under par as of about 1pm. They were just glad they didn't start yesterday. Wind was brutal.

All OSU has to do is get to match play. As was proven last year, it doesn't matter how well you do in stroke play as long as you can get to match play. We were up, what, 10 strokes? And still lost in the weekend.

Great time today out on the course!

Parking is at Lake Carl Blackwell, about a 1/2 mile west of Karsten Creek on the other side of Hwy 51. It's $5 to park and they bus you in. The bus is air conditioned. Runs pretty smoothly!

Bring a water bottle with you. There's water stations along the way where you can fill up.

Joe's has a big tent with fans on the right side of the club house and they're selling hambugers, fowl thangs and brauts.

Next to Joe's is a trailer to buy NCAA Golf Championship t-shirts.

They don't want you walking on the ROUGH! But, you can walk right out into the fairway and stand right behind the golfers and watch their approach shot, then follow them to the green!

The coolest thing is the hall of fame trophies in the club house! That's a MUST SEE! It will make you very proud to be a Cowboy fan and it's so obvious why Holder is our AD! (and rightly so) We are so dominate in golf. It is absoultely increadible to see all the hardware! You enter to the left where the sign reads "Public Enterance".

Bumped into former OSU President, Dr. James Halligan! I love running into him and his wife. Great people!

You can use the rest rooms in the club house and there's plenty of port-a-johns around the course.

For only $10, it's a great day of entertainment!

Not too many times we play at Karsten on a calm day and not a single player breaks par. Good thing Talor and Sean played well. That is one thing i think really will help our team this year in match play. We dont have a weak player on the top 5, all five are capable of winning a tournament.

What a beautiful course! Loved getting to walk right behind the players. Tough day for Peter Uihlein, but his short game kept him in it.
