Looks like firing Glen Spencer was a mistake.
No, not a mistake. The mistake was hiring someone who has never faced a conference slate like we have to. Like with Yurcich, he went cheap and obedient. He hired a dog that he could order to "sit" and no questions would be asked.

We are not as good as we thought we would be. The OL is way overrated. The DL is push-able and thin once the anchor man is injured. Weak LOS spells problem.

The receivers are all speed illusive guys. There are NOT physical in the like of Lacy, Ateman or even Washington.

We are NOT physical at the LOS nor at jump ball in the air?

I'm not sure Knowles fits that description. He was at another power 5 school doing the same job. He faced teams that either won (Clemson) or had recently won (FSU) national championships. During his time in the ACC, they were a better conference than the Big 12. I'm not saying that makes him a good DC, but this hire was fairly conventional. He looked one step below OSU's program (lower tier power 5) and found someone who had improved his team's defense (and who was willing to move to Stillwater and the Big 12). As we're seeing, even that isn't always a foolproof plan.
