Big 12 Realignment thread, 2021 version

Forget the Big12. Forget the Pac12. Now even the Big10 needs to expand if it wants to remain relevant.

Yep, I also think this is what's going on. Penn St to the ACC? BS. The Big10 holds all the cards. The ACC or Pac12 could try to snatch up some of the remaining Big12 teams, and if one of them comes calling of course we take it, but none of that really matters. If the Big10 decides they want...

Have you ever thought of being a Power 5 conference commissioner? I hear the Big 12 could use one...

Yes, except the threat of lawsuits and now pumping the brakes on the 12-team playoff could slow things down. It's a real problem for us that the Pac 12 seems to be completely clueless in all of this. Maybe it's just a facade? I see us in a dangerous position either way. If things move...

Yes and no. This is heading to only two entities, or potentially even just one. Jumping to the Pac 12 would be a stopgap, but it's still better (if available) than the AAC. If you are in the AAC you are out. If you are in the Pac 12, there is a chance that in the next round you get accepted...

The University of Oklahoma is not a private institution, it is a state-funded university. It's primary purpose is to serve the State of Oklahoma and it's tax payers. We can and we will fault them for doing something with such a large detrimental effect on the state as a whole, even if it...

Rx's Summer Thread #4: Your favorite player in each sport

Football: RW McQuarters Basketball: RW McQuarters (not really, but there was that one Bedlam game when he got in a little staring match with <Ryan Humphrey?> and started rocking with his fists up like he was about to knock the dude out, one of my favorite Bedlam moments) Basketball: Desmond...

Not good, this is the doomsday kind of thinking, but it might be where we are headed. In this line of thought the Big10 commissioner holds all the cards. The Pac12 can make the next move and add a few teams if they want, but it doesn't really mean much. The Big10 can decide what the future of...

Imagine if you are the B1G AD. This idea of them moving to 16 teams means nothing. You would have two goals: 1) provide maximum revenue for your member schools, and 2) create a conference that can rival the SEC in power, whether this moves to a situation with two super-conferences or a merger...

Yeah, I suspect that is what this is about. I'm no law-talking-guy, but it seems this could be a precursor to a lawsuit. ESPN probably has a clause in our TV contract that says they get to renegotiate if the value of the Big XII media property is harmed by schools leaving the conference. But...

I see the logic in that, but then why are these professional, minor-league teams associated with universities at all? Do we really think institutes of higher education are the right organizations to run a football minor league? At that point, what's to stop Vince McMahon or Peyton Manning or...

But will they keep that up? Currently with two divisions of 7 teams, you play everyone in your division once (6 games) plus one yearly cross-division rivalry game plus one other rotating game. You only play the non-rival non-division teams once every 6 years. A&M still hasn't played at...

I think this is true, certainly if you put us in a package deal with any Texas school. I do think there is a chance the Big10 goes after USC and UCLA, either now or later. But even if that happens, a Pac without those two is still probably more valuable than the Big12 without OU and Texas.

This is where the rubber meets the road. As others have said, the B10 would be great for finances and stability but it's a pipe dream (also problematic for recruiting). The ACC might come calling if they get raided by the B10, but I don't think we should wait around for that to happen, too...

Interesting that only Baylor gets left out in this scenario. And all this after winning a NC in basketball and significant football success over the last 10 years. (Although, I'm not 100% convinced they wouldn't take Baylor over KSU. If this is all about money, Baylor wins that battle hands...

+1 This is where it's headed, unless somebody with power makes a big turn. Maybe this still results in a lot more money for the SEC and B1G schools, but it will kill college athletics as a whole. Nobody is going to care anymore.
