Rarely, if ever, do you see Oklahoma State extend a scholarship offer to a freshman. It’s been done before — but in football specifically, the prospect has to be as close to can’t-miss as possible.

So for Oklahoma State to extend an offer to rising freshman inside linebacker Kendrick Blackshire this weekend, it should say just about everything you need to know about the coaching staff’s views on one of the top talents in Texas.

Blackshire’s got can’t-miss written all over him. Forget the fact that he’s a Class of 2021 recruit, OSU’s not waiting to pull the trigger with an official pursuit for the 6-2, 230-pounder from Mesquite Horn, Texas.

OSU isn’t alone, either. OSU is his sixth Division I scholarship offer since the calendar turned to 2018, joining the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Baylor, Texas A&M and Arkansas who have all pushed scholarship offers to the table for him.

I don’t say this as hyperbole, but Blackshire’s got a hint of Malik Jefferson to him. He, like Jefferson, is a middle linebacker who moves like a running back and covers serious field in space. He slices through defenses like butter and reads plays with supreme vision for a youngster.

Blackshire is just the second offer in the 2021 class for Oklahoma State, and the first at the linebacker position. Denton, Texas offensive tackle Erick Cade picked up the first 2021 OSU offer back in February.

Blessed to receive an offer from Oklahoma State University
