Really rooting for Jeff Carr. Guy has a huge opportunity this spring with Hill recovering and the freshmen not on campus yet.
Jelani Woods up to 250 lbs as an early enrollee. And according to Gundy, is keeping up the the vets in running drills
Rounding out the group is 2017 signee and early enrollee Jelani Woods, a 6-foot-6 dual threat from Ellenwood, Ga., who Gundy said is up to 250 pounds this spring.
“He's done very well in the offseason,” Gundy said. “He's running and keeping up with the varsity guys, which is not easy to do.”
Is today's the Spring practice presser being carried live anywhere?
Did I completely sleep through Richards moving to Safety? We have VERY little experience at CB coming into this year. That move surprises me. Hopefully we land the Clemson CB grad transfer. I could see CB being a huge problem area.
I know it has been discussed for a while but the Spring Football Guide shows it officially now.
Also, Kenneth Edison-McGruder moved to LB. I am not sure if that just happened now too.
This looks like a terrible move, but I'm sure there is some reason to it. Our remaining CBs on the roster now have zero career INTs and 2 career PBUs... on their collective careers. Moving McGruder out of Safety pushes our secondary from questionable, to holy .... help us. Maybe vets, Morton, Clemson dude (please come) can sure it up, but it sure is scary.
I kinda always expected McGruder to move to the STAR - he's gotten pretty big (in a good way) and has a mean streak. With he and Bundage, we'll have good talent pool/depth in that position for the next couple years. I really like the future of that position and should fill in nicely where Burton left.
One thing I'd be interested to see in spring camp is Ja'Ron Wilson, and if he gets any snaps. He put up really good (nearly 10 YPC) numbers at a prominent football school in Texas 6A. He's up to 225lbs.
I think he'll do great at STAR, but just felt like there was not much need there with Bundage, Tucker, etc. Safety felt SUPER thin with a McGruder move, which will be helped if Richards can play. But again... leaves CB very thin/inexperienced. Hope the secondary can gel, because I see a very special year in our future if that happens.
Agreed. They will need to learn fast, but luckily we have some of the best to practice against.
There is really no cupcake on the schedule this year in non-con.
Great, competition breeds success. Should be a fun camp, I would love to see a 225lb back crushing souls in the red zone. Sure going to miss seeing Carson drop that should and plant people.
Some of the roster moves do seem a little confusing. I do have to remind myself that the coaches do like to experiment in the spring. I would suspect that we would see several of these players move back to the position they played last year in the fall.
As @Runs Deep said, it may be an experiment. We know what Richards can do at corner. This will let the coaches see if he can play safety plus it will let the younger guys get reps at corner, which they desperately need.
What, that sounds logical. What does logic have to do with an OSU football thread ?
I was just relaying what my friend Mr. Speck said.
It's comforting to know that, despite being a little depleted at the RB position, help is on the way with King and Hubbard. That could be some serious thunder and lightning, and I'm thinking that one or both could contribute right away.
